Project Overview
Platinum 3Sixty delivered targeted Elastomac road repairs on Sopwith Way in Kingston upon Thames, treating longitudinal deterioration within the vehicle wheel tracks and additional localised carriageway failures identified while the team was already mobilised.
The works were delivered during July 2026 under night-time traffic management on a live town-centre route. The case study records 2023 AADF traffic data of 28,426 vehicles per day, highlighting the importance of a focused repair approach on a heavily trafficked section of carriageway.
The Problem: Longitudinal Wheel-Track Failure
Sopwith Way showed longitudinal deterioration through the vehicle wheel tracks. During delivery, further localised failures across the carriageway also became apparent, creating an opportunity to address more of the deteriorated surface within the same traffic-management setup.
The Response: Targeted Elastomac Carriageway Repairs
Platinum 3Sixty treated the principal wheel-track failure and incorporated the wider carriageway defects while the team was already on site. This allowed the additional failures to be dealt with during the same mobilisation rather than leaving them for a separate intervention.
Targeted Treatment
Repair activity was concentrated on the areas where the carriageway was visibly failing.
One Mobilisation
Additional carriageway defects were incorporated while the existing traffic-management setup was already in place.
Reduced Excavation
The approach focused treatment where required, reducing unnecessary excavation across unaffected areas.
Night-Time Delivery
The repairs were delivered under night-time traffic management on a live town-centre highway.
Before, Repair Areas & Completed Works
The photographs below show the original wheel-track deterioration and wider carriageway defects, the marked repair area, and the completed Elastomac treatment.
Project Outcome
The completed works produced a continuous wheel-track repair with wider carriageway treatment tied in where additional failures had been identified. The project addressed the principal wheel-track deterioration while making use of the existing mobilisation and night-time traffic management to treat further defects.
Why this repair approach mattered
By focusing the treatment on the failing areas of the carriageway, the works reduced unnecessary excavation while improving the surface through the most heavily trafficked areas of Sopwith Way.
